#56b: Major flood works could transform Belair.

On Dec. 3, 2012,a meeting was held in the Recreation Rooms,
Belair Park to discuss the future management of the lakeside
ecology area. However, this meeting was shortly superseded.
on Dec. 14, 2012, at a meeting held for local stake holders at
Francis Peek Building, Dulwich Park, suggestions were outlined
for storing flood waters in Belair (to reduce flooding in such
areas as Turney Road and Herne Hill after heavy rains) and
focussed on the ecology area. Martin Heath stressed that the
woodland-type habitat should be retained, whilst major
expansion of wetland habitat to either side could be welcome.
A date for a public meeting to consult the local
community will be announced in the New Year.
